Grief Support

Grief Counseling in Colleyville, Texas

You can be functioning and still be carrying something heavy. If you are looking for grief counseling in Colleyville, this is a place to set some of that down. I'm Danny L. Ross, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, and I work with adults in Colleyville and across Texas who are grieving - a death, or a loss nobody around them has named as grief.

Sessions are in person in Colleyville on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and by secure video Monday through Thursday for anyone in Texas. To start, call (817) 989-6332 or complete our brief intake form online. You don't have to have the right words for it yet; just start here.

What Grief Counseling Looks Like Here

Grief counseling with me is not a program you complete or a set of stages you pass through on schedule. It's regular time with someone who understands loss clinically and personally, where we go at your pace and name what you've been carrying.

GRIEF THAT HAS ROOM TO BE NAMED

A lot of the people I sit with are the ones everyone else leans on - the strong friend, the provider, the one who handled the arrangements while everyone else fell apart. They keep functioning. They go to work, answer texts, show up for their families. And underneath that, something has been running on empty for a long time. If that's you, you are not behind, and you are not doing grief wrong.

  • I draw on EMDR, Narrative Therapy, and Continuing Bonds-informed grief work - approaches that help you process what happened, tell the story in your own words, and keep a relationship with what you've lost rather than being told to "move on" from it. What that looks like in the room is slower and quieter than that list sounds. We talk. We notice what's heavy. We decide together what stays.

GRIEF IS NOT ONLY ABOUT DEATH

Most people assume grief counseling is only for bereavement - the death of a parent, a spouse, a child, or a friend. That work is central to what I do. But grief also shows up in a lot of losses that never get a funeral, and those losses are real.

Divorce is grief. So is estrangement from family, the slow loss of a friendship, or being cut off from a church or community that used to hold you. A diagnosis can be grief - for the health or the future you expected. Losing a job, a role, or an identity you built your life around is grief. So is the quiet loss of a version of yourself you don't get back.

These losses are real, and they're often lonelier than a death, because the people around you may not recognize them as losses at all. In the field, this is sometimes called disenfranchised grief - grief that isn't openly acknowledged or socially supported. You're allowed to bring any of it here.

Sessions are in person in Colleyville on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and by secure video Monday through Thursday anywhere in Texas. To start, call (817) 989-6332 or complete the brief intake form online.

Who I work with in Colleyville

I work with adults, and my practice centers are in two groups.

The first is people carrying grief and loss of all kinds, whether recent or from years ago, that never had room to be felt. The second is men - especially high-achieving men and men of color - who were taught early that being fine and looking fine are the same thing. If you've spent your life being the one who holds everyone else, therapy can feel like one more performance. It isn't. You set the pace, and much of my work is with men who have never been to counseling before.

  • I bring more than twenty years across school systems, hospital settings, and private practice, and I've done my own grieving - I buried my sister, my mother, and my brother within five years. I'm also a former hospital Bereavement Specialist. I say that not as a credential but so you know the person across from you has sat where you're sitting.

How We Work

The first session is mostly about you talking and me listening. We slow down, go over what brought you in, answer your questions, and build a realistic plan that respects your culture and values. There is no pressure to relive everything on day one.

First Session

We talk about what brought you here, your story, and what you hope will be different. I explain how counseling works, answer your questions, and we build a plan together. You lead; I follow.

Steady Grief Work

From there, sessions are a steady, private place to process the loss, make sense of anger, guilt, numbness, or relief, and learn how to carry what you carry without it flattening you.

In Person & Telehealth
In‑person sessions are held in Colleyville at 5005 Thompson Terrace, Suite 1, on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment. There's on‑site parking, and it's a private, unhurried space. If getting to an office is hard, whether because of your schedule, your energy, or where you live in Texas, telehealth is a real option, not a lesser one. I'm a Board‑Certified TeleMental Health Provider (BC‑TMH), and I see clients by secure video Monday through Thursday anywhere in the state.
